We normally rent from Universal Rental from Cabarete. They bring the car to you at the airport and always waiting for us at the curb. We have excellent service from them. The cars always have something inside broken, like lighter or cup tray, but no big deal.
This time, we rented online with Budget, since we get FF miles. Got there and they didn't have our car! they took us next door to some local renter. The car was fine. The hassle we had at the airport rentals was the long wait for the car and long wait to return. We got their economy car which was $27/day including taxes.
We'll probably go back to renting from Universal because of the personal service. On the day we leave, they come to our house to get the car and drive us to airport. That is really service. |

we have had excellent service from Universal Car Rental in Cabarete. their website is http://www.universalcarrental.com . It will give you prices, etc.
The longer you rent, the more the discount. For a Corolla, expect to pay around $30/day which includes taxes and insurance.
They will meet you at POP airport - arriving and departing. You give them credit card number for security and pay them up front for the car. But last time, they didn't ask for our money until end of trip. The main sales person is a beautiful woman named Dairy. She has a cell phone where you can contact her day or night if you have questions/issues. The cars are in good shape, although they may have a knob or something broken inside. Mechanically and structurally - they are sound.
I highly recommend this car rental. If anyone contacts her, tell Dairy that Jan & Doug from Kentucky sent you. |

| After a price evaluation we decided to rent a jeep (which is important – if you wish to travel in Las Garellas area) in Universal Car Rental www.universalcarrental.com) agency. A lady called Dairy manages this agency. Frankly, we were quiet hesitance in the beginning regarding this car rental agency, but we found out that this is the best service we ever got. They came to pick us up from the airport (They also dropped us off there, a minor issue which saved us a lot of money and headache), the jeep was in a quiet good condition (except to the 4WD which did not work – make sure to check this out), and comparing to the price we paid I think it is the BEST deal to rent the car from this nice and kind lady. Ohhhh …such a good service.

| I've rented from Universal in Cabarete twice so far. Paid approx $55/day (incl. tax and ins.) for a Suzuki Vitara. Rates negotiable for cash and duration. Cars were fairly new and in very good condition. Drove the first one roundtrip from POP to Las Terrenas - no problems. Dairy Veras, the owner, speaks excellent English and French and is a pleasure to deal with. On my last trip they picked us up at STI and drove us back to Cabarete then dropped us back at STI when we left - the pickup was right on time and no extra charge either way. In my book these are good people. They are located right at the center of town in Cabarete and you can book online at www.universalcarrental.com |

| Just returned from 12 days on the North Coast starting with the 3 hr drive to Las Terrenas and return. Universal delivered the car to POP on time as prearranged. No hassles, no problems, with the car for the whole trip. The young lady working in the Cabarete office is Dairy Veras. Just shoot her an email and she takes care of everything. Even gives you her beeper # to call anytime if you need help. I don't know what they could have done better. |

We really appreciate all you did to help make our trip a success. We spent seven days moving about the countryside and experienced more than most missionaries who have lived there for man years.
